About This Review

“Let’s Dine Out” host, Allan Borgen mentioned on several occasions that Bonello’s Pizza made incredibly good everything… but I had never heard of Bonello’s before, and you probably haven’t either.

It was not until we were waiting as a guest of Allan Borgen’s am 590 – KTIE “Let’s Dine Out Show” that we were blessed in meeting Gus Garcia, one of the brothers who own Bonello’s Pizza. Gus was also a guest on the “Let’s Dine Out Show” that day, and provided food for the KTIE Station “Greenroom” (which is actually painted Navajo White).

One of the most popular items Bonello’s Pizza provided was one of there humongous Stuffed Calzones, which is served with their signature marinara sauce… both absolutely some of the best you will find anywhere. Gus also brought several of Bonello’s Pizza selections served up crispy crust “New York” Style.

We left the station knowing that we needed to arrange for a photo shoot of the Garcia Brother’s Bonello’s Pizza for our California Online Magazine “A Passion For Pizza” article…

This was that less than candid Photo Shoot and Review.

The Review

Incredible Calzones!
One of Bonello’s Pizza signature items is their Calzone… something Bonello’s describes as a “3 cheese turnover). This is an amazingly delicious version of the classic stuffed pizza recipe. Bonello’s Pizza creation includes liberal amounts of creamy “New York” style ricotta cheese in place of the more traditional pizza sauce presentation. The brothers than load other cheeses and your choice of ingredients inside the crust before folding it over and placing it in their oven. It is served with sides of marinara sauce… and big enough for a meal of 2, assuming medium appetites. Allan Borgen is rumored to be capable of eating 2 by himself (part of his old “Jimmy Craig” diet, before meeting wife "Jenny Craig").

New York Style Thin Crust Pizza
Bonello’s Pizza is a very classically prepared “New York” style thin crust pizza. Liberal amounts of sauce, cheese and topping placed on top of a hand tossed and stretched pizza dough, baked directly on the hot stones of their oven. The result is a deliciously crispy crusted pie with a light, slightly bubbly edge and just the right amount of cheese and topping. Nothing overly done proportionally, but nothing skimped on either. Wolfgang Puck and Mario Batali would be impressed at about a third the price they would charge for pizzas this good!

Lasagna
Victor and his brother Gus serve up one of the best homemade Lasagna to be found anywhere, at any price. Once again, we are talking huge serving sizes of freshly made marinara sauce, loads of ricotta and other cheeses… plus just the right amount of fresh basil. Served with Bonello’s Garlic buttered bread knots, this lasagna is reason enough to make a drive to Grand Terrace. This is a favorite!

Submarine Sandwiches
Only the photos tell the story about Bonello’s humongous sandwiches properly… they have to be seen to be believed! Bonello’s starts of with their own freshly baked sandwich bread, literally the size of their plastic serving trays, and stuffs the roll to over flowing with your choice of meats. This is a sandwich big enough for two… we enjoy the freshly sliced pastrami; and I bet you can’t eat just one!

All of Your Pizzeria Favorites
Salads and a menu of classic Italian specialty dishes like Spaghetti, Lasagna, Ravioli, Tortellini and other pasta dishes are also served.

Prices & Service
Prices are very reasonable, serving sizes massive and Bonello’s quality exceptional. Orders are taken at the walk up counter with meals served to your table. Service is attentive and friendly plus knowledgeable of their menu… our glasses were kept full; but then we had the camera. Judging from the crowd, Bonello’s Pizza provides similar service to everyone, and just about everybody in Grand Terrace knows about the Garcia Brother’s Pizzeria.

Improvements
I'm not sure there is much to improve other than a better location... Bonello's restaurant is in an older building which detracts and makes it hard to look as good as many of the newer Pizzerias. The food is outstanding!
