Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que Restaurant (909) 792-4151 27500 Lugonia Ave. Redlands, CA At the Citrus Plaza Shopping Center
Slow Smoked Pork Ribs Famous Dave’s is legendary for their slow smoked BBQ Competition Trimmed “Saint Luis” style pork ribs… and does not offer Baby Back ribs at the Redlands, California restaurant. The ribs are good sized with the moist meat literally falling off the bone. The taste of Famous Dave’s rub and pit BBQ smoking goes clear through the meat producing a quality of rib not found at any grill and a tenderness unrivaled by oven cooked bones. These are some of the best ribs we have ever had the pleasure of eating… absolutely fantastic! Beef Brisket Dave’s Brisket was also very flavorful, and melt in your mouth tender… once again reflecting the experience gained from years of BBQ Contests and countless awards. Very lean. Chicken Famous Dave’s Chicken was the only weak point of our review. The chicken was tender and flavorful, but slightly dried out. It would be my guess as a reviewer that this is not reflective of the chicken Famous Dave’s turns out on a typical night… but for their grand opening the chicken was disappointing. Famous Dave’s Chili One thing that you absolutely must try if you enjoy chili is Famous Dave’s version… It is just about the best consistency and taste I have enjoyed, and leaves just the right amount of after-burn. In follow up visits we have found the consistency of Dave’s Chili to change… but still enjoyed it. The “Chili Powder” heat level is lower than what I would normally say good contest style chili should have, but the combination of spices brings out the flavor and mixture of meats ect is sure make this a must order side dish. Service and Ambiance The staff and service was exceptional considering the wait, and once seated both attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Please keep in mind that the restaurant was absolutely jamb packed and on most occasions as busy as I have seen any restaurant. The ambiance leans towards the casual “BBQ Barn” motif with the noise levels being our only major complaint… but a big one. On every occasion we have visited Famous Dave’s the background noise level has been so loud as to make any casual conversation at your table almost impossible. When we have asked management about the noise level we have been informed that “This is all part of Famous Dave’s award winning formula.” Our guess is that Famous Dave keeps a large bottle of aspirin handy for headaches… and is boarder-line deaf! It is actually quieter in the bar area than in the dining areas.
We have been informed recently that the management is working on lowering the noise levels... at which time Famous Dave's would become one of our favorite restaurants. |
