When it comes to “Large Families” Romano’s family of “Macaroni Grill” Restaurants is huge with over 225 locations. The recipe is simple… serve consistently good food, semi-generous quantities and treat everyone like family; keep the menu stimulating and the prices reasonable. “Macaroni Grill” does all of this better than any other chain restaurant in the Inland Empire.

Macaroni Grill decor in is faux Tuscany, with colorful imitation Venetian plaster walls, rock work and rich woods combine with  wine racks and a bustling semi “open kitchen” design. Diners can almost see their meal being prepared; hear the “Sizzle and Flash” if they want, plus view the wood fired oven... all of this has been exceptionally well planned out.

The presentation is up-scale without being pretentious. Everything is well rehearsed with waiters greeting the diners at the table, and drawing their name on the paper covered table. Freshly baked loaves of still hot rosemary sourdough bread brought out along with the production of pouring a little tray of olive oil for dipping. We always request a little balsamic vinegar and fresh ground pepper added… and than the menus are presented. No other restaurant in the moderate price range does this greeting and seating production better; “Macaroni Grill” is masterful in their production.

Nothing has not been thought out; “Macaroni Grill” provides a menu that appears and sounds “Gourmet” without charging the prices of the higher end “Formal Italian” venues. The menu has something for just about everyone, plus an impressive beverage and wine list without becoming too pricey.

The wine lists about thirty Californian, Italian, Austrian, and Washington selections by the glass or bottle. Also fun, if you enjoy drinking the “House Wine” Macaroni grill brings a bottle of their house wine to your table and allows you to pour your own wine on the “honor system.” At the end of your meal you tell them how many glasses you had… assuming you can remember. We are not sure they really care; it is all part of the Macaroni Grill production and assures repeat business.

Of our personal favorite is the Macaroni Grill’s Chicken Marsala; Thinly sliced chicken breast topped with fresh portobello mushrooms, roasted garlic and Macaroni Grill’s marsala wine sauce. Served with capellini pasta. This recipe produces a delicious wine reduction sauce, enhanced with whole caramelized garlic cloves. The sauce is uncomplicated, but amazingly flavorful... which seems to be the trademark of the best Italian Restaurant menus.

Also very good, and a little different from anything else we see on menus is Macaroni Grill’s Honey Balsamic Chicken; Savory grilled chicken with honey balsamic glaze. Served with sundried tomato capellini pasta and grilled broccoli. Once again the reduction sauce makes this dish.

Surprisingly good is Macaroni Grill’s Halibut; Lightly seasoned grilled halibut topped with a tomato basil relish and served with creamy pesto Parmesan risotto. If Pizza is your thing… the pizza’s baked in the Grill’s wood fired oven is a sure hit.

"Create Your Own" Pasta Menu
Perhaps the most popular menu item is Macaroni Grill’s "Create Your Own" Pasta Menu. When you order this little marketing jewel they give you a check off sheet. This option allows for your choice of:

F  Pastas: Penna, Fettuccine, Bowtie, and Spaghetti. “Pick one.”

Eight Sauces: Roasted Garlic Cream (House specialty), Bolognese (Meat Sauce), Tomato Basil (Classic Red sauce), Alfredo (Parmesan Cream sauce), Aglio Olio (Spicy Garlic and olive oil), Asiago Cream (Italian White cheese), Arrabbiata (Spicy Red Sauce), Tomato Cream (Guest Favorite) “Pick One.”

Twelve add ins: Roasted Garlic cloves, Diced tomatoes, Sundried Tomatoes, Diced red Onions, Sliced Black Olives, Fresh Broccoli, Sliced Artichokes, Sliced Mushrooms, Fresh Spinach, Chopped Green Onions, Roasted Red Peppers, Pine Nuts “Pick up to Three.”
