Candid Restaurant Reviews - The Wright Gourmet
Mimis Cafe - San Bernardino, Ca.

a As a restaurant reviewer and food critic we are positive that many other “food critics” are going to disagree… but we have always enjoyed Mimis Café. There always seems to be a wait, but the service has consistently been good and the food served as ordered. Seating is comfortable, and the atmosphere inviting; not to mention their courtesy basket of fresh breads.

Mimis specializes in very traditional “comfort style” menu with the quality being exceptionally high for a chain style restaurant. My only complaint has been that their menu seemed a bit bland… and interestingly enough, as we write this review this is supposedly changing.

To such change; Adam Baird, head chef of the Mimis Cafe just  sent out press releases claiming to have "Traveled throughout the world tasting and creating dishes, with nothing comparable to the bold flavors of southwestern cuisine. To share these tastes with our guests, I've experimented with some of the cooking methods and spices that this region is famous for and brought them back to Mimis Cafe." Some more spice would be a welcome thing for the Cafe... and we wish them luck with their new menu items.

NOTE: We absolutely love Mimis Café New England Clam Chowder, which is only served on Fridays… but worth the wait! Typically we dine with business friends and order salads and cheese burgers, but all of Mimis sandwiches which we have enjoyed have been delicious. We always try to order our burger medium-rare, and on occasion they have provided such… but will when requested assure the burgers are not overly cooked. They have always been juicy with perfect buns and fresh condiments. The serving sizes are generous.

In closing… Mimis makes some amazing muffins and breads. We enjoy their bran muffins warmed with butter. Exceptional.
