Candid Restaurant Reviews - The Wright Gourmet
Red Lobster - San Bernardino, Ca.

Red Lobster is what it is; an overpriced, chain restaurant serving up a blending of Seafood with an attempt to provide something for everybody, including those who do not like seafood. Many would expect me as food critic to be overly hard on Red Lobster… but give me a break; it is what it is, and everybody knows what to expect. If anything Red Lobster is successful and growing as a chain because they are consistent.

As typical when we dine at the Red Lobster, it was as a business lunch… the destination being somebody else’s choosing (not mine); and we ordered off of the “Today’s Fresh Fish menu.” Everyone looked past the over priced “Live Maine Lobsters,” and ordered everything from hamburgers to Mahi-Mahi, Halibut, and Shark; all grilled.

Everyone enjoyed Red Lobster’s trademarked “Cheddar Bay Biscuits” which probably have enough calories to cause Jenny Craig to have a coronary, and several bowls of New England Style Clam Chowder… and two garden salads.

The Fish was all served over-cooked, but still moist and flavorful. Red Lobster’s quality is good; however on several occasions they have told me the fish was “fresh,” and when it was served the texture indicated it had been frozen. It is just about impossible to make frozen fish taste as good as truly fresh fish; and the Inland Empire is blessed with several Restaurants that specialize in fresh fish. Comparatively, Red Lobster serves fish.

All this said my further complaint with Red Lobster is their serving sizes; which are simply too small. For the price it leaves me feeling ripped off. The Cheeseburger was very good.
