GREAT NEWS my fellow Inland Empire Foodies; not “5-Star Rated,” but only about 5-miles from the fast-food epicenter that birthed the first McDonalds Restaurant opens an Inland Empire  gastronomical respite, The Art Institute of America Culinary School. The school is located down the street, and around the corner from the “Olive Garden Restaurant,” just off San Bernardino’s Hospitality Lane “Restaurant Row.”

The “Art Institute Culinary School” amazing growth has it ranked as the fastest growing Culinary School in the country… surpassing the famous Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute with over 70,000 students (Just a few less than the best attended, not so "culinary," McDonalds Hamburger-U!)

Who could have guessed San Bernardino was so deserving, or so hungry for a World-Class Cooking School? The “IE” LUCKED OUT!!

One of the high points of the Art Institutes expanding curriculum is the opening of their own student run restaurant that should put “Le Cordon Bleu’s” Student run “561 Restaurant” (located in Pasadena, Ca.) on notice… the Inland Empire now has more than just Big Macs on their short-list of culinary accomplishments.

As part of the Art Institutes hands on Restaurant and Hospitality Management curriculum, the Culinary School is opening a fully operational, Student Run Restaurant on their Inland Empire Campus. The restaurant, a first for San Bernardino will featured a classically inspired menu infused with contemporary cross over influences and favorites from around the world; offering a changing selection of fresh fish, meat and pasta dishes, plus interesting dessert creations.

As designed, the students rotate through various positions, including management, in order to learn all aspects of restaurant management. The Art Institutes staff of professional chefs simplify student learning while the institute’s students gain experience in preparing fresh, quality food combined with exceptional service. The restaurant will provide a hands-on learning experience similar to apprenticing in a top rated 5-star restaurant, and put the students hospitality and management theory lessons to the test. Prices should be moderate… and the dining experience memorable. Reservations will become an assured necessity.

Part of the festivities of the Art Institute of America announcement of the up-coming student run restaurant was a celebration luncheon recognizing the renaming of the nationally recognized school. The reception was well attended by 100 city, state and government dignitaries plus press and local restaurant and food critics.

Present was the Inland Empires own “Let’s Dine Out” (am 590; KTIE) show hosts Allan Borgen and Cliff Young plus California Online Magazine’s “Wright Gourmet” Food Critic, Ed Wright with contributing editors Ron Grandorf and Allan Pizer. The food was first-rate… everyone is looking forward to the yet unnamed restaurants grand opening in several months.

Note to Our Readers: The Art Institute’s Student run Restaurant should be as interesting as another of popular Student Run Restaurants on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona. These “Student Run” Restaurants provide an evening well worth the time it takes to make reservations and are great way for the local community to provide support.
