About The Restaurant Review Magazine
 and "The Wright Gourmet"

Just a few answers to frequently asked questions about
"The Wright Gourmet" and the motivation behind publishing
our own online Restaurant Review Magazines.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Restaurant "reviewers" are not employees or representatives of this website, nor compensated in any manner by this website for reviews or review submissions and we do not reimburse reviewers for any dining expenses incurred of any kind or nature. "Reviewers" act at all times as "private individuals," completely responsible for their own actions, and are not allowed to make any claim or representation as to be employees of, or representative for this website, nor to request free meals or services of any kind on behalf of any "Review" or review(s) being performed for posting onto this website.

This website reserves the absolute right to refuse posting, and maintains the right to remove reviews once posted without comment or explanation being required for such actions.
If there are any concerns or violations of this policy restaurant owners, managers or reviewers are encouraged to call Ed Wright at (909) 938-3777 for clarification, as and when required.

All the above unpleasant "required" legal disclosures made (we apologize that they are necessary)...  Perhaps the most frequent questions we receive about our Restaurant review pages relate to how we are compensated for posting them… so to clear these type of questions up;

1) Do we get paid for posting them? (NO)

2) Do we get free food for posting them? (NO)

3) Why post Restaurant Reviews? Right behind the compensation questions we are typically asked “Why post Restaurant Reviews” as part of our Real Estate and Lending Magazines? After all, our goal is to generate interest in these core services… which is true; but the internet traffic generated by posting these reviews helps keep our contributors names and services fresh on our readers mind; and these are local viewers. The added internet traffic reviews generate pulls the ranking of all of the magazines pages higher in the search engines, and helps to target geographically specific (city by city) search results to all areas of our magazines.

Also factor in that all of those submitting reviews enjoy dining out and sharing their experiences… and granted, the majority of our readers do not posts reviews; frequently our viewers just love to cook and our accomplished “Foodies” themselves. Also, more importantly, marketing surveys show that this group of consumers (interested in fine dining) tends to have higher levels of education and much higher levels of income, and are just the sort of potential customer who will research their next home sale, purchase or lending decision online before contacting any agent or lender.

4) Can our reviews or reviewers be bought? (Probably… we like to think so, if the price is right!) But all humor aside Unlike News Paper, Magazine and other “City Guides,” Review Pages, and On line Restaurant Listing Pages, The Wright Gourmet publishes unadulterated comments from real restaurant patrons… not from paid reviewers who seem interested in who buys the most advertisement space.

5) So what is with the “Wright Gourmet” title? Ed Wright has been publishing Restaurant Reviews and Commentary in the Southern California area for over 6 years now, with over 1,000 reviews posted… and as a Mortgage Loan Officer dines out way too often. The “Wright Gourmet” title is part of our marketing, and a play on the “Wright” name… plus our impromptu surveys showed that nobody wants to read restaurant reviews written by “The Wrong Gourmet!”

6) Is “The Wright Gourmet” a member of any “Reviewers’ Organization?” It may come as a surprise but when we checked into joining (I/E) “California Restaurant Reviewers Association” we were told that we had to be employed by a “Hard Paper / Magazine” in order to join. Independent “On line” food reviewers were not allowed… we assume because they might be too honest, which could be hard on newspaper ad revenues. Besides, when we asked the little club of reviewers only had 16 members statewide! We have more than that already… and besides we make it a point to assure that “The Wright Gourmet” Reviews are honestly written and opinionated from the diners’ perspective. If a restaurant provides less than satisfactory food, we simply avoid it!

Sidebar Note: Have you ever noticed that the restaurants that advertise the most need to? These seem to be the restaurants that provide the most coupons, and seem to serve, proportionally to the number of coupons, the worst food? The really great restaurants always seem to be so busy they do not need to "coupon" much! Think about it; a coupon pizza is usually worth just about the coupon price (or less)… and a really great one costs just a few dollars more. Why settle for less than your money’s worth every time? Read our reviews… we know where the best Pizza is!

7) Do the restaurants reviewed know they are being reviewed? This is an interesting question… because all of the Newspaper, Cable and Magazine Reviewers are fairly well known and recognizable figures in the restaurant circles; plus they are the same ones frequently selling these same restaurants advertising services or their own products and services; so the question about "Knowing" if a review is being done is a bit of a laugh. So for these types of reviewers, the answers are generally, they should know, if they were not called and the review arranged ahead of time! (They frequently have previous reviews written by these same reviewers framed and hanging on their walls); They know who these guys are, and are watching for them!

As for this online magazine, the answer is generally NO; Not until after meals have been ordered and service already reviewed do we ever ask any questions that might reveal any review is being done. At the point the review is complete; we may, or might not ask questions of the staff or manager about how the food was prepared or comment on our dining experience. Only after any review has been completed does a camera ever come out... or, more often, any pictures posted are taken on a different day than the review was done (often the reviews are done at night or as a business lunch with clients, and the pictures are taken later).

The simple fact is that if you write many reviews, a lot of the restaurants we frequent come to know who you are… plus most reviewers honestly enjoy discussing food and their dining experiences. Some of our best reviews are actually written by other restaurant managers, owners and staff that seldom post their names (don't like to openly admit they dine at their competition), and many Realtors, Bankers, Lenders and Service providers tend to shy away from identifying themselves as a "Reviewer," while others enjoy seeing their name next to their reviews; but either way, we try to assure all of our reviews are honest and unbiased.

8) So bottom-line; what is our goal? Dining out costs lots of money; why waste time and money on any restaurant that provides less than great food or has poor service? Paid “Restaurant Reviewers” tend to produce less than reliable reviews (Our Opinion); possibly because their services are designed to bring in additional advertising dollars from the restaurants they review. So our goal is simple: To promote restaurants that serve up great food and a memorable dining experience. The restaurants that do not appear in our reviews probably are “Fast Food” types, or ones that failed to impress any of our reviewers enough to post a review… enough said? In closing, our goal is to build a Restaurant Review Magazine that combines these experiences into a usable “Community by Community Based,” unbiased information source readers can depend on to provide reliable, honest information diners can depend on to predict what their dining experience might be at a reviewed restaurant before spending their hard earned money for something less.

9) How can you have a review posted? If you would like to have a review posted, make a comment, correct information or suggest a restaurant be reviewed please e-mail them to Ed at: Submit Reviews & Comments
